To the tunes of the pouring rain
Dancing feet, dodging splashes
Under the tiny yellow umbrella, the pair of us
Scaling the lengths of East village
One outrageous waiting time after other,
Stomach growls lending beats
To our maniacal shouting of hey Jude
And yet we found ourselves
With a choice on every street
We planned for Thai, but
Ended up breaking naans
And one midnight, hearts full
With free Shakespeare
But stomachs empty
With the week’s wear
We followed the wafting air
Brimming with good old NYC love
Fresh pizza pies were waiting
Just around the corner
Another time,
Strolling in a bazaar,
yet again Stuffing ourselves
With savoury pastries
and sweet summer air
With nowhere to go
But a blanket in the bag
A park appeared right on the left
Quiet of the greens
Swept away our frazzled souls
Without asking for it almost,
We stumbled upon a book store old
And oh what an evening that was,
Amongst ghosts of reader’s laughs and tears
We found some purpose,
and a whole lot of love
Once we took the wrong subway,
And then the wrong exit
And then the wrong bus, twice
And yet when we got off
Our destination was just a nice walk away
It so once even happened
Our weekend walking was wretchedly,
Paired with this wave of swelter
As the hot crests took us to our troughs
An umbrella clad table waived at us
Some ice cream shops propped up
This city can beat the heat too
What can’t it really do?
Weren’t we surprised
To find a quiet dark street
In the middle of nowhere
To be bustling with light,
With a closed for the night
Kind of waiting time
Bragging to be Beyonce’s
Favourite New York Restaurant
Name a thing,
Then just keep walking
Trod to the left
A vintage market appears
Reminding you of a hundred places
all at once
Take a little peek to the right
There’s that dessert shop
You’ve heard so much about
If you keep walking
You might stumble upon a dog park
Or if you turn around
There stands the subway
Waiting to take you
To a place you don’t even know
you wanted to go to
For yet another consequential walk
With yet another memorable meal
The city’s never at a stop
If you just keep walking
